hypoglycaemia-stimulated gastric secretion

چکیده

Insulin-induced hypoglycaemia leads to vagally mediated stimulation of gastric secretion (Hollander, 1946). Insulin-induced hypoglycaemia also produces a stress response mediated by the sympathetic nervous system (Cannon, McIver, and Bliss, 1924; von Euler and Luft, 1952; Duner, 1954; Cantu, Wise, Goldfien, Gullixson, Fischer, and Ganong, 1963). Adrenaline and l-noradrenaline reduce basal and stimulated gastric secretion (Baronofsky and Wangensteen, 1945; Forrest and Code, 1954; Leonsins and Waddell, 1958; Nicoloff, Peter, Stone, and Wangensteen, 1964; Haigh, Moffitt, and Steedman, 1967). It appears therefore that the effects on secretion of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems are mutually antagonistic. This study was undertaken to determine whether inhibition of the sympathetic component leads to a rise in human secretion during insulin-induced hypoglycaemia. In order to achieve adequate inhibition of this sympathetic component it is necessary to block specifically both alpha and beta sympathetic receptors (Ahlquist, 1948) simultaneously, and this was done.

Effect of Esophageal Distention on Basal and Stimulated Gastric Acid Secretion in Rats

It is well established that the esophageal distention (ED) leads to gastric relaxation, partly by vago-vagal reflex, but till now, the effect of ED on gastric acid secretion has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ED on basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats (200-240 g) were deprived of food but not the water 24 h b...

Dose response relationships of insulin hypoglycaemia and gastric acid in man.

Fourteen studies of gastric acid secretion in a basal hour and in the two hours after a single intravenous injection of soluble insulin (0.01 to 0.40 units/kg) were performed in a healthy man. The peak acid output after insulin (measured as the two consecutive 15-minute samples giving the highest acid output) was significantly correlated with the lowest concentration of blood glucose, the fall ...

The Effects of Acute Consumption of Heroin on Basal and Vagal-Stimulated Gastric Acid and Pepsin Secretion in Rat

Background: Opioid peptides and their receptors are present in the majority of body tissues including gastrointestinal tract.  Heroin is one of the opioid derivatives that abuse increasingly today.  So far, there is no study on the effect of acute heroin administration on gastric acid and pepsin secretion. Objective:  To define the effect of the acute heroin consumption on basal and vagal-stimu...

The effect of bromocriptine on basal and histamine-stimulated gastric acid secretion in anesthetized rats

Introduction: The protective and antisecretory effects of dopamine agonists on the stomach have been already reported, but the effect of bromocriptine (D2 dopamine agonist) on histamine stimulated gastric acid secretion (GAS) needs to be investigated. Methods: For gastric sampling, animals were anesthetized and a polyethylen tube was introduced into the stomach through esophagus. A cannula ...
